Planning Your Renovation
A master bathroom renovation is one of the highest-ROI renovations for resale and one of the most impactful for daily quality of life — planning the space carefully justifies the investment.
The double vanity is the most-requested master bathroom feature. Two sinks, each with dedicated storage and mirror space, eliminate the morning congestion that a single vanity creates in a shared bathroom. Double vanity configurations require a minimum width of approximately 1500 mm for two 600-mm single sinks with adequate space between.
What the Process Looks Like
Freestanding bathtubs — soaker tubs on legs or pedestals — are the aspirational master bath focal point. They read as furniture rather than built-in, creating a spa-like atmosphere. The practical requirement is adequate floor space: a freestanding tub requires approximately 1700 mm x 800 mm clear footprint, plus access space on all sides.
Walk-in shower size affects how luxurious the experience feels. The minimum Code-compliant shower (900 x 900 mm) is functional but cramped. A shower of 1200 x 900 mm is comfortable for one person; 1500 x 1000 mm or larger provides the experience of a premium shower. Frameless glass enclosures maximize the visual openness of the space.
Working With D&D Interior Services
Heated floors in a master bathroom are the single feature that most consistently improves the daily comfort experience. The sensation of a warm floor on bare feet, particularly in an Ontario winter morning, is disproportionately luxurious relative to its installation cost.
Natural light is the defining quality difference between a premium master bathroom and a standard one. A skylight, larger window, or window placement that provides morning light at the vanity makes the space feel significantly larger and more inviting than the same room with artificial light only.
